Installation Instructions

How to Install Quarter Glass Vertical Seals
To properly seal your car, you need quality parts,
like we sell at SuperCar Specialty, and a correct installation.
Time spent carefully following these instructions will help you
achieve the "like new" results you're
after!
General Hints:
1. Take your time! Hurrying, especially when
working with adhesives, can cause you to damage your seals.
Regarding adhesives, we recommend either Permatex or 3M Black
Super Weathersrip Adhesive. They are body oem strength, and the
black color is much more forgiving if you happen to get any of it
on you or your car.
2. Check your packaging and invoice to confirm that the seals you are about to install
are for your year, make, and model car.
3. Don't remove both seals at once. Remove
and replace 1 side at a time, starting with the passenger side
which is the least often used.
4. Do your quarter glass and door glass line up
correctly? If your door and/or rear quarter glasses need
adjustment, the new quarter glass seals may not seal properly, or
could be damaged by the mis-alignment. A little time spent on
correcting alignment problems can make your seals last much
longer.
A) Preparation:
Clean out any rust or debris with a small wire brush being
careful not to scratch the chrome. You can put a strip of masking
tape on the edge of the chrome edge molding before you start, to
protect it. Remove any old adhesive, using a release agent. Wipe
the surface with a clean cloth. Clean the entire inner channel on
the chrome edge molding, removing any debris present.
B) Remove Old Quarter Seals:
Remove your old seals in one piece if possible,
using care not to pull off the chrome edge molding on the front
edge of the quarter glass. You may have to remove your u-shaped
door jamb seals to get at the quarter glass seals. Remove any
screws at the base of the old seal. Grab the old seal and firmly
pull down. Pull the old seal DOWN out the the chrome channel. Do
not pull outward, which can loosen the edge chrome. If your old
seals will not come out easily, squirt WD40 or other light
penetrating oil into the chrome edge molding groove and try
again. If that does not work, try attaching vise-grips or pliers
to the edge of the old seal and then gently tap downward on the
vise-grips with a hammer until the seal comes free.
C) Apply Lubricant:
Apply a light lubricant or soapy water to the back of your new seal. If
your model car did not have screws attaching the quarter seal,
you will have to apply a small bead of adhesive to the inside of
the channel. (Figure 10A).
D) Slide New Seal On:
Slide the new quarter window seal into the chrome
edge molding starting at the bottom. Replace the screws at the
bottom of the base if necessary (Figure 10B) and reattach the
u-shaped door jamb seal.
E) Afterwards:
Check the alignment of your door and rear quarter glass to assure that there is no
interference.
Job finished!
